Chapter Twelve

After the others had gone, leaving her alone with Mason, Kendra started washing the dishes, aware of every brush of Mason’s body as he dried them and put them away.

“You’re doing that on purpose.”

Sliding behind her to put another coffee cup away, he brushed against her again, this time more slowly. “Doing what on purpose, honey?”

The playfulness in his voice had her smiling up at him over her shoulder, biting back a moan when his cock pressed against her lower back. “You keep rubbing against me. I’ve watched the four of you move around this kitchen together and never touch each other, so I know there’s room.”

After putting the cup in the cupboard, he moved in behind her with a soft laugh and hugged her from behind. “They don’t smell as good as you do.”

She finished the last dish and reached for the towel to dry her hands, tilting her head to the side as his lips moved over her shoulder. “I need to get cleaned up.” Closing her eyes, she slumped back against him. “Hmm, that feels good, but I’m grungy. Where’s my bag and suitcase? I want to take a shower and then get started on lunch.”

His lips moved over her neck one last time before he straightened, sliding a hand over her bottom as he moved away. “I’ll get it for you.”

Turning to lean back against the counter, Kendra smiled at his back as he started from the room. “I know you think I shouldn’t be alone, but I know you have a lot of work to do. I don’t need a babysitter.”

Mason turned, frowning. “Stop trying to get rid of me. I’m staying.”

Hating to be such an inconvenience, Kendra sighed. “Look, I’m not stupid. I’m not going to go outside and running around with my arms in the air, screaming for someone to shoot at me. I’ll stay in the house, take a shower, fix lunch and do some laundry. Nothing remotely dangerous.”

“I’m staying. I’ll get your things.”

He left the room and appeared again almost immediately, pausing with her bag and purse. “Look, I know this is all a little strange, and I know you’re worried about Quinn’s reaction this morning. I know we’re going to butt heads over what’s best for you, but I don’t think you have any idea of the effect you have on all of us.”

Bending, he brushed his lips over hers. “You’re special, Kendra. You mean something here. You matter. I think that delights all of us. It also scares all of us. Just bear with us, honey. It’ll all work out. I can’t even imagine going back to the way it was before. Can you?”
